RE: Bulk Internet Service

Dear Forest Ridge Property Owners,
The recent survey we conducted via on line and mail voting, resulted in 115 members
participating, with 78 members voting in favor and 38 voting against. Given that more than 50% of the membership is already paying for internet, at more than double the bulk rate offer, the Board feels that adopting a bulk internet contract is in the best interest of the Association. The current Time Warner offer reduces the rate from $53.00 per month, per individual internet service, to $20 per month per member for bulk service. To accommodate this rate in a revenue neutral manner, FRPOA would need to raise dues by the same amount ($20 per month per member). Recognizing that a minority of members do not want bulk internet, however, and in view of the fact that we are saving $5.00 per month per member on the new bulk cable contract, FRPOA may be able to offset some of this increase with other savings, thereby raising the dues to something less than the corresponding $20.00 per month.

High-speed internet usage is an intimate part of all of our lives today, and our dependency is only likely to increase going forward. While some have suggested that local hot spots may be set up using smart phones, cellular bandwidth limitations verses ever increasing date volumes make this approach marginal for all but casual users. For these reasons, we believe taking advantage of the current Time Warner Offer to lock in a significant rate reduction for the next five years is too good an opportunity to pass up. We believe that community wide high speed internet is likely to benefit even those who do not currently want it, and thereby increase the longer term price/performance value of the Forest Ridge Community.

As with the recent adoption of our cable package, your board will negotiate the best possible deal with Time Warner, to insure that our contract maintains their highest level of service for each year of the contract. Accordingly, please be advised that we will be working throughout this year, with the goal of taking a binding community wide vote of the membership by no later than the Annual Meeting this coming October.
